Ecology and evolution of acoustic communication in marine Vertebrates

My research focuses on how animals produce, perceive, and use the sounds of conspecifics and their habitats.  These biological and environmental sounds play critical roles in structuring the behavior and ecology of many species. I have been primarily focused on sounds produced by fishes and whales, how use these sounds and how they respond to the sounds in their environments.

Additionally, these species-specific sounds can be used to determine patterns of occurrence of these acoustically active species.  We can determine patterns of occupancy, habitat use, behavior, just by listening.
